Students participating in an activity for the Professional Development Program

At UIC Business, our professional development program puts you ahead of the competition.

UIC Business instills the proven skills required to excel in today’s global economy. We want our students to be prepared to not just get a job when they graduate, but to become leaders in their fields. By working on critical core competencies now that are desired by employers—communication, teamwork and professional presence—you will be more competitive when you leave UIC. Our professional development programming is the key to unlocking outstanding career opportunities!

Our program prepares you to meet the top five competencies that corporate recruiters value in prospective employees:

  • Verbal Communication
  • Working effectively in a team
  • Initiative
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Building and maintaining relationships

Professional Development Programming

Our Professional Development Programming consists of:

Research in Action

UIC Business faculty and researchers in the Institute for Leadership Excellence and Development conduct research to assess students' leadership competencies, attitudes, and behaviors during the program and for up to five years after graduation. Our researchers design and develop feedback tools to advance understanding of our students' leadership competencies and areas for development.
